03/27/15 20:49 NAME Mya REASON FOR SURRENDER Due to a landlord-tenant conflict, owners could no longer keep Mya. RELATIONSHIP Mya’s previous owner received her from a friend about 8 years ago. She is currently about 9 years old. She scanned negative for a microchip. PEOPLE She lived in a home with 2 adults. She has interacted with 3 children ages newborn to 3 years, and owners state she is very protective of them. She is also playful around them and is gentle when she plays. She usually barks when strangers approach her house and barks or growls when they approach her family. Owners state that she is friendly towards strangers once they are inside the house. She has never bitten anyone. OTHER ANIMALS She lived in a home with 3 cats, including Safira (A1031474) age 8 years. She was usually relaxed or playful around the cats. Around other dogs she is usually relaxed and playful if the other dog is relaxed and playful. When she does play, she is usually exuberant. Owner’s stated that she can be aggressive toward male dogs who try to mount her and that she may growl and snap at them. She has never bitten another animal. PERSONALITY/HABITS She is a moderately active mostly indoor dog who has been described as playful, affectionate towards her family, sometimes mellow, confident, independent, confident, excitable, sometimes anxious, and friendly to some people. She enjoys playing with Kongs and playing in the snow. Her favorite game is tug She isn’t bothered if you touch her food bowl while she is eating, if you give her a bath, if you brush her, if you disturb her while she is sleeping, or during storms or fireworks. She is friendly if you take away a toy or if you have to hold or restrain her for any reason. She likes to follow her owners around or stay in a favorite spot when her owners are home. She eats Pedigree dry food, and her favorite treats are Milk Bones. She prefers to go potty on the grass. She will sleep anywhere she finds comfortable. TRAINING She is house-trained and she rarely has accidents. She is walked 3 times daily. She knows sit, lay down, and come. She is crate-trained and is usually on in it for about 3 hours at a time. She is well-behaved when left alone in the house and is never left alone in a yard. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Mya was wagging her tail and had an open mouth during the intake. She allowed me to scan her and showed no signs of aggression.

04/01/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Maya pulls a bit on leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, wagging tail. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Maya was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. She was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. Maya was not interested in toys or rawhide. Maya was surrender to us. According to her previous owner she lived in a home with 2 adults. She has interacted with 3 children ages newborn to 3 years, and owners state she is very protective of them. She is also playful around them and is gentle when she plays. she lived in a home with 3 cats, including Safira (A1031474) age 8 years. She was usually relaxed or playful around the cats. Around other dogs she is usually relaxed and playful if the other dog is relaxed and playful. Maya did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog-dog: With other dogs off-leash, Maya was nervous and does not want to interact with other dogs.
