07/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Maxwell came in as stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. Upon intake Maxwell was scared, once treats was giving to him he was loose and wiggly. During SAFER Maxwell came into the assessment room calm, friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Maxwell was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Maxwell was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Maxwell appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Maxwell continues to greet politely but seems most interested in sniffing/exploring the yard.
