The Family Owned him for 2 years, and the reason that they are surrendering him is because he is too strong for the 4 children in the home and the Adult owner. He has lived with four children, ages 2, 3, 10, and 17. He is hyperactive and tends to knock the toddlers down when he plays with them. He plays exuberantly with adults. He has never lived with another dog or with a cat. he has never bitten or scratched an animal or human. BEHAVIOR: If left alone in the home, he would chew on the sofa. During storms or loud noises he barks. He is not bothered if someone touches his food, water bowl or toy. Maximus also is not bothered if you give him a bath or brush his coat. He does bark if an unfamiliar person approaches the Family or home. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW: The best ways to describe Maximus is by saying that he is friendly, affectionate, playful. He is very excitable and can be pushy at times. He has a very high activity level. Owner’s favorite thing about Max are his good looks. Maximus favorite activities are to play and run. When home, he follows you around. He enjoys playing with squeaky toys. He loves to play the game chase. He was kept mainly indoors and he sleeps in a crate. He was fed both wet (Pedigree) and dry food (Beneful) a bowls worth, twice a day. max is mostly house trained but will have accidents a few times a week if not walked on time. He usually potties on grass outside and on a wee wee pad in the home. When left alone he does destroy household items. He is crate trained and does well in it up to 4 hours. He listens to the command Sit, Come and Down. For exercise the Owner would take Max on brisk walks on the leash. Off leash he would wander and return when called. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE: Maximus was very friendly and sweet upon intake and allowed all handling and placing into kennel easily.

Maximus ate faster, was stiff and very difficult to push out of the food bowl, but did not growl, snap or bite. He took the toy with a soft body language.
