I met briefly Maximus as a kennel staff was cleaning his den. He had been so quiet for hours and hours, observing the traffic of people and dogs going by his door. Finally, finally, he could go out, stretch his legs and do his business. Yep, Maximus seems very much house trained. He walks nicely on the leash and even sits on command . What a beautiful dog ! Well groomed, well nourished, healthy and really good looking. A hound….I wonder if he howls. Maximus did not speak to me, so i would not know… I let him loose in a pen. A little exploration..I throw him a ball and what do you know…He runs after it and brings it back to me.Maximus just arrived at the care center and he is already playing. That is a spirit ! I look forward to meet him again and if I do not, it will meet that hopefully, he will have met his match with a wonderful adopter..Maximus is at the Manhattan Care Center. Come and meet him soon.
Another volunteer writes: Maximus, meaning “greatest” certainly is!! In his stunning orange coat and speckled feet, a face and body of mixed heritage (hound, lab, beagle….xyz)he’s a friendly well taken care of boy and the perfect dog with whom to start my day. I bent down to put a scarf on him and he snuggled in to kiss me winning my heart immediately. His first order of business once outside was going potty, and then off leash in a pen he found a tennis ball and brought it right over to me. Playing a great game of fetch he executes a perfect retrieve dropping it back at my feet or letting me take it out of his mouth. Meeting other dogs both in the park and as we pass their kennels Maximus gives a little tail wag of greeting. As we take some pictures Max turns out to be a perfect model, not minding being tethered, making soft eye contact and giving me a big smile. Clearly a much loved companion before joining us, Max has a soft easy way about him and is hoping to find his next family quickly. It’s said that animals of mixed parentage capture the best traits of each, and Max should be no exception. Come meet him, adopt him, and prove that theory. Maximus the greatest is waiting.
