Max enjoys a bath and has not had a nail trim. He does not guard his food toys or treats. If the owner takes his food while eating Max will disengage and watch. Max does not go on the bed or couch. He does not mind a bear hug for handling. Max has a hose toy that he likes to play tugging games with. He knows the commands sit. Max can also play fetch as well. When the family is home he likes to be where they are and when home alone he is well behaved. Upon intake Max was receptive to introduction and loose for all handling. Counselor was able to scan for microchip (negative) collar and photograph. Max allowed all petting and enjoyed taking treats. Max would sit on command and walked well on leash.
12/20/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: You won’t find a better old man than Max! Sure his eyes are a little cloudy, his face is getting frosted, and his body probably isn’t what it used to be, but how handsome he is! He is said to be housetrained, and the clean cage he keeps is a testament to that. He wags his tail from the time I approach his cage to the very tail end of our time together (at which point he sometimes does a little peaceful protest about going back in his cage). He loves treats, will sit for them, and even chew the crunchy ones like a young buck. When I take him in the yard he’ll do a little exploring, but after a few minutes he consistently begins an ascent into my lap. He comes to sit at my feet, facing me. His soft gaze is full of wisdom. We’ll exchange a look and he’ll rest his head between my knees, soaking in a thorough head massage. Then he’ll ever-so-gently put his paws on my legs and gradually drape himself across my lap. And there he could stay forever. He is so, so affectionate and easy to connect with. He deserves the best retirement home — please come meet him at Brooklyn ACC!
12/17/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Max previously lived with 4 adults and 3 children. The owner stated Max is affectionate, playful and gentle towards the children in the home. The owner mentioned Max is house broken and well behaved when home alone. At intake it was reported Max was friendly and loose for all handling. During SAFER Max came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was friendly, social and very affectionate towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Max was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Max was easy to handle when engaged with the item. It was reported by the owner Max is affectionate and playful (gentle) with the children in the household from ages 6-11, however one of the kids provoke Max by teasing and throwing objects, he was able to give an appropriate warning growling and avoiding the child (no snapping or attempted to bite). The behavior department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture.
