A volunteer writes: Max is your typical beloved family dog. Plump, well groomed, well mannered, obedient , comfy with humans and other dogs and loving. Yep, Max is all that and more… He is with us for no fault of his own. His owner lost his home….Max and his friend cat were not welcome in his new place of residence. Max is described as a “good dog”. Such simple words but really those we want to hear ! He would be house trained, friendly to all, loved to play with “his” cat, enjoyed a ball, a tug of war and fetch game, had no handling issues and would not be destructive while left alone in the house. I felt immediately “good” when I met and spent time with Max. A pooch i would adopt without hesitation if i was looking for a pet companion. He is cute, house trained , a nice walker, gentle, a good cuddler and obedient . His age is just perfect for many people who are looking for a calm although lively dog. Well, Max is at the Manhattan Care Center. Come and meet him. Take him home as your new loyal friend.
A staff member writes: Max is an affectionate and playful old boy who was surrendered to us due to moving issues. Max is very playful in his cage and has lots of energy. Please pull from MACC!
Basic Information: Max was brought in as an owner’s surrender due to owner moving, and being unable to bring him along. Owner is unsure of Max’s exact age, but says he is neutered and does not have any injuries or health concerns. When asked what he likes most about Max owner chose that he is “a good dog”.
Personality & Behavior: Max is described as playful, confident, and affectionate with a medium-activity level Max lived with a cat (A1047985) and owner says they were playful and affectionate with each other, often playing around the house. Owner says Max gets walked about once per day, and is house-trained. Owner says he rarely has accidents. According to owner, Max has not had any issues with biting anyone or another animal. Max is said to be friendly if owner touches food, toys, or treats. Max is said to enjoy baths, but is afraid and will struggle to get away when getting nails-trimmed.
For a New Family to Know: Max currently knows commands, sit, come, and stay. Owner says he enjoys toy palls and likes playing tug and fetch. When home Max usually stays in his favorite spots, and owner says he is relaxed and well-behaved when home alone. According to owner, max becomes nervous when hearing loud invasive noises and will begin to bark. Max was fed both wet and dry food, and usually slept on rug in the living room.
Behavior during Intake: Max was very friendly during intake. He immediately came when summoned, and accepted treats. Max demonstrated his knowledge of commands and allowed all handling. Max showed no signs of aggression during intake.
GROUP BEHAVIOR: When introduced into playgroup, Max initially growls when introduced at the fence. He is muzzled for safety reasons. Upon entering the yard, Max is tolerant of sniffing and interaction. His muzzle is removed and he continues to approach and sniff the other dog.
