08/01/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I fell in love…………….his name is Max. He’s white with black spots scattered here and there….he’s quiet, so well behaved, has an amazing resume left by his former owner….and I wish he could be mine. He was curled up in his kennel resting when I approach, getting up as I unlatched his door. Low key, calm, gentle, great on leash walking at a slow pace (it was soooo hot), he really had me in the palm of his hand….palm of his paw? We’re told that he’s housetrained when walked regularly, lived with two children and was playful and affectionate with them, lived with a ferret and was playful (wow!), likes water and enjoys taking baths, has been trained to not go up on furniture, is well behaved when left home alone (as long as garbage has been put away), likes to play with stuffed toys, sleeps in his own bed next to his owner’s, and the ONLY TIME SHE HEARD HIM BARK WAS TO WARN OF A FIRE IN THE HOUSE!!! Max is amazingly trained, knows ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘stay’ and ‘come’. He showed me his sit, goes into an immediate down, and takes his reward treat so gently. In play group as of this writing he gets along well with females, and growled at a male through the fence. He aced his behavior assessment which is no surprise, and between his former owner’s comments, outstanding comments by volunteers on his walking log and elsewhere, you know you’re adopting a rock star! Yes, I love all the dogs, but some have me swooning…………..like Max. Come meet him today.

07/26/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Max was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. He was calm and relaxed during handling. He engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open. Max was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had neutral body language. He was easy to handle when chewing on toys and took away the rawhide with a neutral body. Max was surrendered to the care center by his owner of 6 months due to personal issues; upon intake Max appeared to be stressed, he was pacing and was crying once his owners left, but he allowed all handling. His owners reported that Max lived with children ages 8 and 11; he was playful and affectionate towards them but due to his size would occasionally be unintentionally rough during play. It was also stated that Max is unbothered when his food is touched and is playful when his toys are touched. Max was described as being playful, friendly, affectionate, and excitable with a medium activity level. He remained friendly towards the assessor throughout the assessment.
