05/03/15 13:03 Maverick is a two year old neutered American Pit Bull terrier with no present medical condition. Owner has had Maverick for two years after saving him from a fire and is surrendering because of landlord issues. Socialization: Maverick is a very playful and greets everybody with excitement and wiggly body. Maverick plays with adults somewhat roughly, will jump up and if you are holding a rope or leash will grab it from you. Maverick has been around children ages 13 and 9 and will play with them roughly as well by jumping up on them. Around other dogs Maverick engages in rough play, will chase, jump and wrestle with a loose wiggly body. Maverick is friends with one cat that he allows to lay and jump on him. Maverick will chase other cats outside the home but will have an open mouth and a loose body. Behavior: Maverick likes to play tug of war with ropes and leashes. Maverick doesn’t mind when someone takes his food or treat/bone, mover him off furniture, holds/restrains him or wakes him up. When giving Maverick bathes he will stiffen, growl and try to get away from the water. When someone approaches the house maverick will bark until they come inside and will greet them with a loose body. For the New family to Know: Maverick’s family described him as playful affectionate and friendly with a very high activity level. When home with Maverick he will lay next to you on beds, couches or in his own cage. Maverick is house trained and is well behaved if left in the house alone. Maverick enjoys playing with any type of balls and ropes. For exercise maverick will play in the yard and enjoys brisk walks on the beach. When off leash Maverick will come back if he wanders too far but only on the beach. Maverick is treat motivated and knows the commands sit and down for his treats. When on a leash Maverick will pull very hard in the direction he wants to go. Maverick eats dry food (Dog Chow) twice a day. When going to sleep Maverick will go to his cage. Behavior During Intake: Maverick was very excited when coming in and greeted the counselor and was easily scanned. When owner was holding the leash Maverick would tug on the leash in a playful manor.

Maverick’s previous owner states, he is very playful and greets everybody with excitement. It was noted that Maverick plays with adults somewhat roughly; jumping up and if you are holding a rope or leash he will grab it from you. Maverick has also been reported to play roughly with children as well by jumping up on them. The owner stated Maverick lived with a cat and was reported to be very tolerant, but he will chase other cats he sees outside. The owner also mentioned when giving Maverick bathes he will At intake it was noted that Maverick was very excited when greeting the counselor and when the owner was holding the leash Maverick would tug on the leash in a playful manor. During SAFER Maverick was sociable but jumped up and mouthed the leash between the SAFER items. He was relaxed for some handling, but did become a bit stiff during the paw handling. During the tag interaction Maverick was easily over aroused and consistently jumped up tugging hard on the leash, and needed a great deal of time to calm down. He was a bit resistant when pushed out of the food bowl, but lifted his head with a bit of pressure applied to his cheek, allowing the assessor to remove the food without issue. Maverick as easy to handle when engaged with the toys and rawhides and allowed the assessor to remove the items without issue. The Department feels Maverick may be too rough for children, and would be best suited for a home without children, as well as an experienced adopter that is able to provide leash training. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 3. Dog becomes easily over aroused and tugs hard on leash, body stiff, tail high, and his ears are forward. Squeeze 1 & 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Body a bit stiff Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish rawhide to you. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Maverick is playful and offers play bows. He is very interested in engaging with other dogs and is social.

He is very interested in engaging with other dogs and is social. 5/7 Update Maverick will solicit for play with play bows when off leash with another dog and will show bouncy behavior. He does not engage in much play and explores the yard with another dog. 5/8 update: Maverick is tense upon greeting but will engage in bouncy, running play. He is tolerant of a pushy female. 5/9 update: Maverick is very tolerant with a pushy female. He is uncomfortable but does not offer correction. 5/10 Update Maverick engages in play with a social and playful female. He is polite and respectful of a female that is not interested in play and will politely offer play bows. 5/11 Update Maverick is not interested in play and is tolerant of other dogs approaching him to interact. He does not seem interested in interacting 5/12 Update Maverick engages in a bit of play. 5/13 Update Maverick engages in rough and rowdy play with a number of different females and is playful and social
