11/13/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
11/13/15 10:28 Mars Bars was brought in as a stray via the police. While in the care of the officers they showed no aggression and allowed all handling but would pull hard when on leash. During intake allowed admission counselor to do all handling without aggression. When scanned was negative for a microchip. When touched had soft, wiggly body and would jump onto admission counselor. When given treat would respond to sit command. When other animals were visible she would have neutral or wiggly body and would high pitch bark while pulling on leash to approach.

11/17/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Marsbar is an ” established” healthy and well nourished lady who wonders what she is doing in the middle of a crowd she never thought to mingle with. She was found in the company of Gobstopper, a younger gal who I think shares her feelings. Both seem to have been wonderfully cared for, are chunky, as shiny as a new nickel and quite sociable and friendly toward people. They love treats and food, of course, or they would not be so tubby. Marsbar is welcoming in her kennel, clearly knows what a leash is for and is ready for her walk. She strolls nicely around the block, nears indifferently other dogs and does her business on the way. Looking at her walking log, she is clearly appreciated by the volunteers who have been walking her. Free in a pen, Marsbar comes when called and sits obediently on command. She is eager for treats, will jump for them and can be told successfully to ask politely for treats. Marsbar surely looks like a family dog. In playgroups with other dogs, she has been wondering, I believe, what on earth she might be doing with those pooches she has not been introduced to with the “protocol” a gal of her lineage and age is used to. I guess, things change in life and she will have to get used for the moment to situations she never experienced before. Marsbar is a very likable female, opinionated, probably, and who will make a fun, lively and interactive forever best friend. She can be met at the Manhattan Care Center, call her “Me Lady” and take her home for many wonderful and happy years to come.

11/16/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mars Bars came into our center after being found tied up with another large dog. She allowed all handling during intake and initial medical exam. Mars Bars pulled hard on leash during her relief walk, barking at other dogs and staff while outside. She barked at assessor upon entering SAFER assessment room but was easy to position. Mars Bars held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, tail wagging. She stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body soft, mouth open. Mars Bars playfully engaged during Tag game, jumping and hopping, settling easily at end. She did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts, tail wagging. Mars Bars playfully engaged with Toy, keeping a firm grip with loose, wiggly body and wagging tail. When off leash with other dogs Mars Bars briefly greets but maintains a stiff body throughout the interaction. She eventually solicits briefly. The Behavior Team feels Mars Bars would do best with an Experienced adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is wagging with relaxed body posture, mouth open.. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game, jumping, settles at end. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not pull back paw, tail wag. Toy 1. Dog keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Mars Bars briefly greets but maintains a stiff body throughout the interaction. She eventually solicits briefly.

11/14/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Mars Bars was initially uncomfortable interacting with other dogs but began to open up and solicit play. She came into the care center with another female, but as a stray so her past behaviors in a home with another dog are unknown. Mars Bars needs time to feel comfortable, so the behavior department recommends that she have a pre-adoption interaction before being placed in a home with another dog. When off leash with other dogs Mars Bars briefly greets but maintains a stiff body throughout the interaction. She eventually solicits briefly. 11/18: Mars Bars offers brief greeting. She mostly keeps to herself, wandering off to explore and sniff her surroundings.
