06/12/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/12/15 12:44 Basic info: Maro is a 4 year old chihuahua/rottweiler mix who has no known injuries or medical problems and was gotten as a gift. He is being surrendered to the shelter due to resource guarding issues. Social life and Personality: According to owner he has not been around children, dog or cats so his behaviors are unknown. He is house trained and kept mostly indoors. He has a high level of energy. Behavior: He has a history of biting owner (has 3 bites in the last 4 years. The most recent was on 6/10/15 that drew blood) but has not bitten any other animal before. When owner would attempt to take food, treats, bones, or rawhides he would become stiff bodied, growl, snap and try to bite but when toys were taken away he was not bothered. He is fearful of getting a bath and will run away and hide. When unfamiliar people approach the house or family member he will be stiff bodied and bark but will approach and sniff them if they are calm and quiet. New Family Info: He is used to brisk walks on leash 2 times a day and will play with balls. He is not crate trained and at home he rarely seeks attention from owner. When left home alone he will bark and whine and is not bothered by loud noises such as fireworks or thunder. He was fed dry food. Intake Behavior: During intake he would slowly approach extended hand and sniff. When given treat he would sniff and slowly/gently take from hand. He had stiff body while being scanned (negative), collared, pictured, and leashed but had no other signs of aggression.

06/23/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Maro is fearful of the shelter environment he walks with a low and fearful body language. Maro was extremely fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. He became very fearful while playing tag. Maro was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. He approached other dog with friendly/playful body language. Maro was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Maro has bitten over the food, treats and bones in the past, and for that reason we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification to address this guarding behavior and can extensively counsel potential adopters before placement into a permanent home.
