09/10/15 19:48 Basic info Marley is an approximately 2 year old APBT. The owner had him for approx. 2 months and she found him as a stray. She decided to bring him home. She also has a 5 year APBT and they have not been getting along. She has to keep them both in seperate rooms to avoid altercations between the two. He is being surrendered because of this reason. He has not seen a vet and he has no known health issues. Socialization Around strangers, Marley is very friendly and outgoing. He loves children and plays exuberantly with them. She has children in the home the ages of 20,16 and 11 years old. He plays exuberantly with adults. Around other dogs, he becomes very excited and begins to bark at them. He is not bothered by cats. He has not bitten anyone or any other animal. Behavior Marley is walked 3 times a day. She does not know his reaction to fireworks or storms. Marley growls when trying to take his food bowl away. She says that her family knows to wait until he is finished to take the bowl away. He starts to play when taking his treat or toys away. The owner says that he loves baths and that her children have to rush to jump in the bathroom because he will follow and jump into the tub with them. He gets very excited when he knows hes getting bathed. He loves being brushed and does not mind having his nails trimmed. For a new family to know The owner describes Marley as friendly, affectionate, independent, protective, excitable and playful. He has a very high activity level. Her favorite thing about him is that he is very strong and loveable. He follows the family around the house and seeks attention. He has balls, stuffed toys, and squeaky toys but his favorite is his kong toy. She fills it up with peanut butter. He loves to play fetch and tug. He has been mostly kept indoors and loves to sleep in her daughters room. Marley gets hot at night and likes to pull pillows and blankets off of the bed . He also has a crate and is well behaved when left alone. He pulls hard on the leash and she says that he is very strong. He wasbeing fed taste of the wild, bison flavor, twice a day. He loves tomatoes and lettuce. Behvaior during intake When i approached Marley, he got very excited, wagging his tail and jumping up. He allowed all handling-scanning(-), collaring and photographs. He was very friendly and gave us all lots of kisses.

A volunteer writes: Here are some fun facts we know about Marley: He loves tomatoes and lettuce! He loves to take baths and will jump in the tub with whoever is in it! He gets hot at night so if he’s sleeping in bed with you he’ll remove the blanket! He loves a kong filled with peanut butter! He loves children and plays exuberantly with them! He loves being brushed! How fun does he sound? Marley was found as a stray and stayed with his finder for a while but Marley and the resident dog did not get along so he’s now with us. We’re also told he was walked 3x a day, is not bothered by cats, will give a low growl if you take his food bowl away before he’s finished, and during the intake process he gave staff lots of kisses. Awwww. He’s a gorgeous dog in a rich dark brown coat highlighted with bronze threads. He showed off his housetraining skills as soon as we were out the door, and when walked on a short leash did great. He may try to jump up the leash from time to time to play but a firm hand will correct that and we keep going. He’s playful and loving, joining me on the bench for some hugs and kisses. Marley is a big boy with lots of friendly energy so is looking for an active home in which exercise and mental stimulation is on the daily ‘to do’ list. What a great example he’ll set when you tell your kids to eat their salad!
09/11/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Marley pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. Marley was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Marley approaches the helper dog with his tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip long. Marley appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. Marley is an active dog he need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experienced home. Marley’s adopters should also be aware that he is reported to growl over the food bowl; this can be managed by leaving Marley alone until he is finished eating. Adopters need to be prepared to safely manage this behavior so Marley does not continue rehearsing this behavior. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 1. No interest. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2.
