04/29/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Markie came in as a stray surrender, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was noted that Markie displayed friendly body language, and was easy to handle. It was also reported that Markie was tolerant of all handling during her medical exam. During SAFER Markie was sociable towards the assessor, and jumped up when greeting. She allowed the assessor to conduct all handling items without issue, but during the tag interaction Markie became mouthy (no pressure applied), and jumped up body checking the assessor with stiff body language, but was easy to calm down. She was easily pushed out of the food bowl during the food item, and allowed the assessor to remove the food bowl without issue. She was not interested in the toy item, and she was easy to handle when engaged with the rawhide, but held a firm grip and would not relinquish the item. Due to the behaviors displayed during the tag interaction, the department feels Markie would be best suited for a home with an experienced adopter without small children. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 3. Dog responds with her tail high, ears forward, mouth closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and body checks the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Body a bit tense Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against her cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the rawhide, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Markie polite greets the helper dog and is bouncy and engages in rough and rowdy play. She is tolerant and respectful.
