07/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog: A0928010 Mariner came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. Mariner has a previous bite history when he bit his owner on both of her ankles and broke skin. There was no information giving on why Mariner bit his owner. At intake Mariner was calm and relaxed he was shy and a bit friendly, and allowed all handling. During SAFER Mariner came into the assessment room calm and shy, he was a bit friendly towards the assessor but head shy when trying to pet him, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Mariner followed the assessor with his body low during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Mariner was easy to handle when engaged with the items. During dog to dog interaction Mariner approached the helper dog with his tail above spine and body tense. Due to some concerns with Mariner previous bite history and also of him being shy/fearful, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body tense, mouth closed. Tag: 2. Dog is fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is crouching. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Food: 1. No interest Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 3. Dog approaches the helper dog tail above spine, body tense, ears forward.
