04/20/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Amazing. That is the only word worthy of being uttered in the same sentence as the name Marcus. Volunteer one day in an animal shelter and you will agree that animals can teach us all a lesson in forgiving, forgetting and moving forward in life with happiness and love for all. Found with his equally delightful companion Eboni and covered in feces, Marcus has been cleaned up and is enjoying regular meals, a bed and most importantly love and attention from people who care about him. He has already forgotten all about the conditions he was found in and is only looking forward to the opportunity to spread love and kisses to all he meets. With his average safer, sweet nature and youthful spirit, Marcus has a lifetime of love to give. He is ready to greet his future with open paws and is looking for his new person or family to take his leash in hand and walk him towards the life he deserves. Another volunteer writes: Marcus is a gentle dog. He walks really well and has a calm demeanor. He did seem a bit on the timid side when I had walked him. Marcus needs a gentle human like himself.
04/15/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Marcus was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. He was calm and relaxed during handling and allowed for all tactical handling to be performed with ease. During tag, Marcus followed at the end of the leash with a soft body. He was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl but his body remained soft. He had no interest in toys and minimal interest in rawhide allowing it to be easily relinquished to the Assessor. Marcus came to the care center as a stray. He was calm and relaxed during intake and exhibited similar behavior throughout his assessment. Marcus showed no concerning behavior and the Behavior Department believes he can go to an average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not pull back at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed or back. Licks hand. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after moderate pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog mouths, then turns away.
