I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 07/28/2015 from NY 10467, owner surrender reason stated was ABANDON.

A volunteer writes: I thought I was done for the day until I saw Maple Leaf and I just had to meet this handsome fellow who was smiling at me so nicely. His name should be Maple Sugar as he’s as sweet as can be! He’s likely housetrained taking advantage of being outside right away and pulls slightly on the leash as we walk around the block. We stopped to talk to one of the vets taking a quick break and he wagged his tail in greeting as she told him how stunning he is. And he really is! His gorgeous coat gleams with good care, his tail wags, and his demeanor is friendly and easy. A brindle boy with gorgeous markings, there is an x on the top of his head that became my kissing target! So fun! In group play he greets other dogs nicely and responds well to correction. Off leash in the yard Maple Sugar (yes, I’m calling him that!) snuggles into my legs as he sits by my feet. He’s so gentle and sweet and as he’s sitting in front of me exposes his ‘x’ kissing target for tons of kisses :). It was too hot to play ball, but he gives it a quick chase before coming back to sit by me. He’s a hunk, our boy, looking for a new family to love. Maple Leaf pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Maple Leaf was calm and relaxed during handling. Maple Leaf did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He was not interested in food or rawhide. Maple Leaf did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. When off leash with other dogs, Maple Leaf greets politely, then becomes sexually motivated. He responds well to correction for sexually motivated behavior, and then resumes to wander the yard.

He repsonds well to correction.
