06/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mantus was stiff and fearful; she did not show social behavior during the assessment. It took a lot of time to position her for each item and she never warmed up to the assessor, she was tense throughout handling, with fearful body language. After each pass during the tag interaction, Mantus would stiffen and stop movement; she gave whale eye throughout tag. She did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Mantus had no interest in toy or rawhide. Mantus was brought to the care center as a stray; upon intake she was very tense with a low body, when she was being collared she bared teeth and growled. She was very fearful, not social, and cautious throughout the assessment. Mantus has a bite history having reportedly bit a staff member when tethered in the hallway. The Behavior Department recommends that based on her extreme fear, stiffness, and avoidance of interaction coupled with her bite history, that Mantus be placed with a New Hope Partner that is willing and able to allow her the time to warm up to new people and environments. In addition, we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Mantus be given the opportunity to interact at their own pace. Look: 3. Very stiff and fearful, will not approach the assessor and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 4. Dog stiffens after each pass with tail tuck, giving whale eye throughout, trying to exit. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff. Flank squeeze 1&2: 2. Dog does not respond, body stiff. Food 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against her cheek. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog – dog 1. Dog approaches the helper dog submissively (head low, tail low, ears back, lip long).
