12/29/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mango was surrendered due to lack of time. She is described as shy, friendly toward but generally avoidant of other animals, and gentle with people. She needs a slow approach and time to warm up to those around her. She is reported to have chewed on walls in her previous home, but we have no additional information about the behavior (whether it happens only when the owners leave, whether Mango was given alternative items to engage with, etc.). She is noted to be house trained. Mango has been easy to handle since intake. During her medical exam she was noted to circle and sometimes fall over. Due to this behavior, as well as to her general medical condition, she is not an ideal candidate for a SAFER aggression assessment at this time. A thorough owner profile was collected and should be referred to as a predictor of likely future in-home behavior. Due to our inability to fully assess Mango’s behavior in the care center, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can address her medical needs and then re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment.
