08/04/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mandy came to us as an owner surrender on 8/2/2015. Owner reports she has been around children age 13 and older and interacted with them in a playful gentle manner but is unsure how she would respond in the presence of children younger than 13. Owner reports Mandy has been around other dogs and interacted with them in a playful gentle manner. Behavior around cats is unknown. Owner states Mandy appears to be a little shy at first, but once comfortable she is fine, and will typically just keep her distance until she is comfortable. Mandy was difficult to leash and collar at the beginning of the assessment, whining and head flipping. She was uncomfortable with up-close handling and unable to be positioned during Look item, whale eye and staying at least a foot away from assessor at all times, therefore assessment progressed straight to resources. Mandy had no interest in Food or Toy, with minimal interest in Rawhide. Mandy approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, ears forward, tail above spine level, body relaxed. Staff was unable to remove leash at the end of assessment without additional tools, heap flipping, whining, snapping. Due to her discomfort with tactile handling that resulted in head flipping and snapping, the Behavior Team feels Mandy must be placed with a New Hope Partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 4. Gives whale eye while remaining motionless with ears forward. Her body is stiff and keeps at least a foot away at all times. Food: Inconclusive, dog is not eating. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog sniffs and licks then turns away. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
