SAFER: EXPERIENCED HOME
Helper Dog:A1024957
During intake Hansel was reported to be very social and appeared interested in greeting everyone that approached him. He licked hands and wagged his tail the entire time, and allowed all handling and collaring by an admissions counselor. During SAFER Hansel had a loose body posture, was not attention seeking and appeared to be more interested in sniffing and marking the room. He was a bit tense during some of the handling, but allowed the assessor to conduct each item without issue, and he was relaxed during the tag interaction. Hansel did become a bit stiff during the food item, but after a bit of pressure was applied to his cheek, Hansel lifted his head from the food bowl. He was not interested in the toys or rawhide items, and during the dog-dog interaction, Hansel rushed in towards the helper dog with stiff body language.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is down, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip licks.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back.
Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek.
Toy 1: No interest.
Rawhide: 1. No interest.
Dog-dog: 3. Dog approaches the helper dog by rushing in with his tail high, stiff body, head tall, and ears erect.
Group Behavior:
When off leash with other dogs, Hansel is polite when greeting and when offered a play bow he is somewhat interested and offers a play bow back but never fully engages in play.
3/29 Update
Major (FKA Hansel) offers play bows to the helper dog and is friendly, tolerant and respectful of the other dog.
3/30 Update
Major is interested in interacting and being around another dog but is not illustrate interest in engaging in play besides offering one play bow.
3/31,4/1 Update
Major is tolerant and respectful around other dogs and is quite tolerant of an active’s females attempts to initiate play
4/2 Update
When initially in the yard, Major is nervous, shaking and offers a low growl to a greeting female. He wanders the yard and does not want to engage with the female in the yard and actively avoids being around her
