06/05/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Major came into the care center as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake he was reported to be tolerant of all handling, and appeared to be interested in interacting with other dogs in the lobby. During SAFER Major was sociable but occasionally became more interested in his surroundings. He maintained a relaxed body posture during all of the handling items, and was playful during the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Major became stiff and could not be pushed out of the food bowl, but did not growl or snap. He also became stiff when the assessor attempted to remove the rawhide item, and held a firm grip while moving away from the assessor. When engaged with the toy item, he held a firm grip and did not relinquish the toy, but his body was loose and wiggly. Due to the concerns seen on the food and rawhide items, we recommend an experienced adopter with not children, and it is also recommended that future adopter teach Major “Drop it” and trade up games. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Food: 3. Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites, body stiff. He does not lift head when hand is applied to cheek. Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Rawhide: 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. His body is stiff.
