A volunteer writes:

We currently have a little dog at the Manhattan Care Center who bares an uncanny resemblance to a most famous canine movie star- Toto.   Tiny terrier Toby could also be a star of stage and screen with his adorable little face and friendly demeanor.    He was on my list of “rescue only” dogs to meet and I was blown away by how sweet and friendly little Toby was.  Reading his owner surrender notes revealed that he was brought in with a canine sibling so off we went to find her.   Little Maggie was shaking and scared at the back of her kennel but once she smelled Toto she was front and center and wiggling with happiness.   Maggie is much older at 14 years and she appears to be blind, walking into the fence often when free in the pen outside.  Amazingly, Toby trots along at her side and in his presence, her tail is out and swinging and she is brave enough to get close  to me for some petting.   Surrendered by their family who is moving to a place they are not welcome, both Maggie and Toby have fabulous notes of living with children, dogs and a cat harmoniously, loving to play together and cuddle with the owner.  Maggie is very lost and distraught at the noisy shelter whereas Toby is very happy go lucky.   Toby reminds me of an attentive younger man (he’s only 7 after all) tending to his older mistress whether she likes it or not and sometimes getting in her way.  They are such a cute pair and so delightful together.     I hope they can find their way to happiness and comfort in a new home soon
