WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Macy is so beautiful! She has spots that look pixelated at the edges, black lips that outline an amazing smile, eyes that are filled with kindness, and a heart of gold! She is usually quiet in her cage – sometimes stretched out, awake, but with her head resting on top of or between her extended front legs – so cute! She is always makes soft eye contact and is happy to go for a walk. Macy keeps her cage clean and is quick to relieve herself outside, so may be housebroken. She pulls a little on the leash sometimes, but always wags her tail and looks back as if to remind me she’s not just happy because she’s exploring, but because she’s doing it with me. She loves treats and with a little encouragement takes them very gently. Macy responds to “sit” most of the time, other times she likes to stand up (and stay up!) like a kangaroo looking for treats on the horizon. She hasn’t been especially demanding of affection with me, but seems so grateful to receive it. She’ll sit next to me on the bench, lick my hands and face, prop her paws on my lap, and lean in as I pet her – she is a lover, and I love her! Please come meet this gentle sweetheart at Brooklyn ACC and see for yourself what makes her so special.
07/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Macy came into the care center as a stray, so we do not have any information on her past behaviors in a home. Upon intake Macy was reported to be very receptive to introduction and allowed handling. It was also notes that Macy walked well on leash and she likes to jump up to make introductions but is receptive to correction from person holding leash. During SAFER Macy was very sociable towards the assessor. She maintained a loose body posture for all handling items, and was relaxed during the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Macy was a bit resistant when pushed out of the food bowl, but with a bit of pressure applied to her cheek, she lifted her head and allowed the assessor to remove the food. When engaged with the toys and rawhide items, Macy had a loose a wiggly body, but would not relinquish the items to the assessor. Macy appears to be very sociable and attention seeking, and has not shown any behavioral concerns while in the care center, so the department feels Macy can be suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide. Dog-dog: Macy is initially stiff but will then begin to solicit play by offering play bows. She may attempt to assert herself over another assertive female.
