09/06/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
9/6/15 10:28 Basic information: Mackie is roughly 5 yr. old male AM Pit Bull mix. The Owner got him from a neighbor; he has owned Mackie for 5 months. The owner surrendered Mackie and Redd A1050531 because the owner can no longer care for them. Mackie has no health problems and has never been taken to a vet. Socialization: Around strangers Mackie is shy but playful. Mackie has not lived with children but he is relaxed and playful around children and adults he does not know once he gets use to the person. Mackie has lived with Redd A1050531 another 5yr old AM Pit Bull mix and is relaxed and playful with him. Mackie has never bitten anyone. He has never been outside of his yard and is very nervous of walking anywhere, the owner is not sure how Mackie would be around dogs other than Redd. Behavior: The owner stats that Mackie is not bothered when some moves his food or treats while he is eating, when someone takes his toys away or when someone disturbs him while sleeping. Mackie likes to be brushed and given bathes but has never had his nails trimmed. When an unfamiliar person or animal approaches a family member or his home he approaches them in a friendly manor. The owner does not know how Mackie is around loud noises such as storms or fireworks. Mackie have never been outside of the yard so he is very fearful of any other surroundings. For a new family to know: The owner describes Mackie as friendly and playful with a medium activity level. His favorite activity is to play fetch with his owner. In the home Mackie tends to follow the owner around the house and is kept mainly indoors. Mackie sleeps in an open kennel in the owner’s basement. Mackie was fed Gravy Train dry and dog food three times a day. He is house trained and rarely has accidents in the home, when outside he goes to the bathroom on or around grass. Mackie knows the commands “sit “and “lay down”. For exercise Mackie is used to playing loose in the yard and has never been walked outside. He is allowed to play off the leash in the yard; he wanders off some to explore the surrounding area but comes back when called. Behavior during intake: Mackie was tense with tucked tail and stiff body, when approached by staff. Mackie would not walk and refused to move, the owner had to carry Mackie during most of the handling and placing in dog kennel, he allowed to be scanned (-), collared by the owner.
09/09/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes (as told by Mackie): Hi everyone….I’m Mackie. I’m here with my roommate Redd as our owner could no longer take care of us. I’m a shy dude because I’ve not had much exposure to the world out there. I’ve never been outside of my own backyard, so walking on a leash in the street is a whole new thing for me. My friend, Volunteer, encouraged me and told me I did GREAT. It was pretty cool – I could get used to it – lots of interesting things to see and smell. My former people will tell you that I’m housetrained (I think that means I do all my business outside), know ‘sit’ and ‘lay down’, I’m shy but relaxed with strangers, and relaxed and playful with kids. I love to play fetch, and I like to be brushed and take a bath. I’m a pretty “chill” guy, and Volunteer did her best to make me comfortable so that I wouldn’t be shy anymore. She gave me treats which I took so gently she called me a ‘good boy’. I don’t have much experience with dogs other than my friend Redd, but when other dogs came over to the gate to say hello to me I was happy to meet them and wagged my tail ‘hello dog’! I also wagged my tail when Volunteer pet me as it sure felt good, and even though I’m a bit shy I like people and respond to soft words and a soft touch. So, here I am – 5 years old and in need of a forever home. Please give me a little time to adjust to you and my new home, and I promise I will be your best friend ever!! Pinky swear!
09/20/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mackie came to us along with another large dog as an owner surrender. It is reported he is relaxed and playful around children he has met, though he has never lived with any children. It is reported Mackie has never been walked outside of his own yard and gets nervous going anywhere else. Owner reports Mackie is house trained. Mackie was nervous upon intake, tense with tail tucked, stiff body. Mackie walked nicely on leash for his relief walk. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body relaxed, tail down. Mackie stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body soft and relaxed. He followed at the end of leash for Tag game, cautious at last pass. Mackie did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts, tail tucked. He bit the assess-a-hand when approaching during Food item. Mackie took Toy and Rawhide away, body a bit stiff. He approached helper dog at a slow pace, head low, ears forward. Due to his potential for possessiveness and reactivity during Food item, Mackie must be placed with a New Hope partner. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
