11/06/15 12:59 Basic info: Lurch is an 8 year old male dog who has no known injuries or medical problems. He was surrendered to the shelter because his owner is moving out of state and cannot bring him. Social Life and Personality: He has not been around any children or other dogs so his behaviors are unknown. He lived with 4 cats and was relaxed and affectionate but did not try to play. He is house trained, kept mostly indoors, and has a low level of energy. Behavior: He has not bitten anyone or any animal before. He will growl and snap when owner tried to take food away from him. He was never given a bath before so his behaviors are unknown. When unfamiliar people approach the house or family member he will hide behind owner and will retreat until he feels comfortable with them. New Family Info: He knows the command sit and was used to slow walks on leash. He does not play with any toys and was never crate trained. At home he followed owner around and when left home alone was well behaved. He was fed dry food and slept in bed with owner. Intake Behavior: When owner was in the room he would initially hide under owners chair but when the owner left he approached and allowed all handling without aggression. When touched had neutral body and when given treat would sniff but did not eat. When scanned was negative for a microchip.

Lurch is fearful of the shelter environment he walks with a low and fearful body language. He was fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. Lurch becomes extremely frightened during the tag interaction, tail tucked, and trying to exit room. He was not interested in toys. Lurch was surrender to us. According to his previous owner He has not been around any children or other dogs so his behaviors are unknown. He lived with 4 cats and was relaxed and affectionate but did not try to play. When unfamiliar people approach the house or family member he will hide behind owner and will retreat until he feels comfortable with them. He will growl and snap when owner tried to take food away from him”. Lurch has been showing fearful behavior and avoids interaction in the care center. Lurch is nervous and trembling throughout the assessment and has a crouched body posture. The behavior department advises that future adopters should be able to provide positive experiences for Lurch. In addition, we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Lurch be given the opportunity to interact at their own pace. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter without children. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is stiff and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, shy body language, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 3. Dog repeatedly turns quickly away when touched, or repeatedly spins toward the touch, and repeatedly tries to exit, Dog may be crouching ,tail is tucked, mouth closed, body stiff Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy 1. No interest. Lurch is nervous when off-leash in the yard and does not attempt to greet or interact.
