A staff member writes: Lucy is one of the most sweetest girls ever! She came in as a stray and has the most beautiful markings. She seems to like other dogs and loves people!
BEHAVIOR : AVERAGE HOME
Lucy came to our center after a member of the public found her as a stray. She was friendly and allowed all handling during her initial medical exam. Lucy pulled hard during her relief walk. She allowed her head to be held in assessor’s hands, body neutral. Lucy stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, tail down, body soft. She followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, settling easily at end of game. Lucy was difficult to position at the beginning of Squeeze item, shoulder rubbing and jumping up on assessor, but once positioned she stood still and did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. She had no interest in Food, jumping up on assistant playfully. Lucy playfully engaged with Toy, keeping a firm grip with a loose body. Lucy engaged with Rawhide but only briefly, quickly losing interest. Lucy approached the helper dog quickly, tail above spine level, body a bit stiff, lip lick. Off leash with other dogs Lucy was a bit stiff but tolerant and enjoyed the yard with another dog. The Behavior Team feels Lucy would do well in an Average home. She may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners and body awareness in regards to jumping up.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, body neutral. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is down with relaxed body posture.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.
Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed.
Food: Inconclusive, dog is not eating.
Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip, body loose. She does not place her body between you and the toy.
Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, briefly engages, then quickly loses interest.
Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog a bit stiff, lip lick, and ears erect.
GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Lucy was a bit unsure at first but quickly loosened up. She is very tolerant and allows to be greeted but does not engage in play with a solicitous male, enjoys the doggy pool!
9/2 update : Lucy engaged in brief jumping play with a social male. When introduced to a polite female, Lucy began to exhibit assertive and escalating behavior. 9/3 update : Lucy continues to be a bit forward and pushy when meeting a new dog. She engages in rough, mouthy play and offers multiple play bows. 9/4 update : Lucy engages in rough and rowdy play and will sometimes mount.
