05/02/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/02/15 12:53 BASIC INFO: Lucky A1035013 is a American Eskimo, German Sheperd Mix about 14 years old. Owner got the dog from it’s previous Owner (Mother in Law) who passed away last month. The Owner cannot keep Lucky due to the fact that Owner is ill and Lucky is not getting along with the Owner. SOCIALIZATION: Lucky is usually tolerant of strangers. He does not play with Adults. Owner only had Lucky for a little over a month and stated that Lucky was not socialized much with people or animals. BEHAVIOR: Lucky used the potty indoors on days when Owner could not walk him. Owner does not know how Lucky responds during storms, fireworks or loud noises. It is unknown what Lucky’s response will be if you touch his food bowl or anything else. He growls when you try to bathe him or brush him. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW: The best way to describe Lucky is by saying that he is confident. He has a low activity level as he is a senior dog. My favorite thing about Lucky is that he can be loveable. Lucky loves to play tug. When home, Lucky would stay in one spot. He enjoys playing with balls. He would do good in a home with a yard and an elderly couple. He is fed Pedigree dry food and he has an open bowl. He is mostly house trained, and rarely has accidents. When left home alone he is well behaved. He listens to the command come. For exercise he would go on slow walks on the leash. He does pull lightly on the leash and goes potty anywhere. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE: Lucky was tense and nervous. He had his tail tucked and growled and lunged at Counselors.
05/08/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Lucky is an older gentleman residing with us as his long time owner passed away . He is very calm in his kennel, sleeps often or observes peacefully the premises. Lucky is leashed easily, trots nicely by my side and does the stairs without trouble. He likes to sniff along the way and does his business as soon as we enter the yard. At first, he does not come when I call him but treats helping, he becomes more open to a conversation and some petting. He even sits close to me.His eyes are still bright. His coat is reasonably well groomed, thick , healthy and feels soft to the touch.. A forgotten tennis ball got his attention and Lucky started to nuzzle it with his pointy nose..Two large dogs in an adjacent pen picked up his curiosity for a brief moment…Past life, new life… are scrambling inside his head.Lucky is obviously lost…He lived quite sheltered with his single master and was poorly socialized to the outside world. A quiet, genuinely loving and stable home is what Lucky realy needs at this point in time. I believe that even an old dog can learn new tricks…A different environment could “unleash” Lucky’s social and playful sides… Handsome Lucky is at the Manhattan Care Center, waiting patiently for you.
05/05/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lucky walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Lucky was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. He does not approach other dog, attempts to exit. Lucky was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Lucky is usually tolerant of strangers. He does not play with adults. Owner only had Lucky for a little over a month and stated that Lucky was not socialized much with people or animals”. Lucky was tense and nervous. He had his tail tucked and growled and lunged at Counselors during the intake. Lucky did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. Because of his owner profile the behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1.
