04/13/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Loyalty’s name may seem like some cruel joke but this stunning youngster isn’t letting her recent abandonment get her down, she’s still chock full of happy energy and has nothing but love and tail wags for everyone she meets. People and dogs alike are greeted with perfectly tempered enthusiasm and though she can be a wee bit shy with her two-legged friends, fellow canines get the full wiggle-butt treatment and lots of happy nose to nose snuffles. Loyalty loves playing with balls and she’s all about running around the pen, jumping up and down with (and sometimes on) her human and playing chase. She’s no snuggler but head petting and butt rubs are still much appreciated and when we go for a stroll in the street she shows off her house training skills and responds well to leash correction too. Loyalty most recently lived within a small household of one adult and one child and we’re told she gets along well with kids. So let’s see…gorgeous, friendly and full of fun…yep, sounds like the perfect dog for an active family to me. Loyalty is waiting and hoping someone will finally match her name with the real thing, a home as loyal and loving as she is!
04/14/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Loyalty pulls hard on the leash. She was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, mouthy (moderate). She was overexcited during handling, jumping up, mouthy, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Loyalty became over aroused during the tag interaction, grabbing the leash in an aggressive manner, and did not calm down easily. She was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. Loyalty approaches helper dog, body is tense, ears erect and high tail. Loyalty was surrendered to us. According to her previous owner she gets along with children but she is not very sociable with strangers. The owner stated she is very dog aggressive she will lunge and bite other dogs”. Staff member reported that “Loyalty is reactive towards rope in playful manor. Upon taking dog out of cage dog grabbed rope and started tugging and pulling while growling. She did not get aggressive towards handlers”. Loyalty is an active dog she needs a significant amount of exercise, mental stimulation, and training. The behavior department feels that she would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
