Love has a name that suits her personality! She is a pure LOVE! She is so gentle, polite, doesn’t jump on you, great on the leash – everything you want in a calm pooch! She does very well in doggy playgroup and will back off politely if there is any rough play.

SAFER – AVERAGE HOME
Love came to our center when she was found wandering in the street by police. She allowed the officer to place her in the car, and solicited attention from admissions counselor upon intake. Love walked nicely on leash, no pulling. Once in the SAFER assessment area, she exhibited displacement scratching and sniffing throughout assessment, before beginning and in between items. Love allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands for Look item, and accepted touch with wagging tail during Sensitivity item. She engaged in play right away at the onset of Tag, settling right away at end of game, then more displacement scratching and sniffing. She had no response to both Squeeze attempts of her paw. Love calmly allowed the Food dish to be moved away from her, ceased eating and lifted her head when approached by assess-a-hand. Love played enthusiastically with Toy-holding both toy and rawhide with firm grip and loose, wiggly body. During social time, she often solicits play and is tolerant with overly exuberant dogs. The Behavior Team feels Love will do well in an Average home that will give her time to warm up in her new environment so she may relax and minimalize the displacement behaviors she was exhibiting during the assessment.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is wagging with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game.
Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed.
Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out.
Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy.
Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide.
Dog-to-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Love seems to offer a disproportionate correction when engaging in play, she often solicits play and is tolerant with overly exuberant dogs. She is also a very polite greeter.
GROUP BEHAVIOR
5/19/15
When off leash with other dogs, Love seems to offer a disproportionate correction when engaging in play, she often solicits play and is tolerant when being mounted by a male dog. She is also a very polite greeter.
5/20 Update
Love continues to solicit play to a male dog but politely backs off when play is not acknowledged, she takes well to correction. She solicited play to a female dog who escalated the situation, Love politely backed off and appropriately responded.
