06/24/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Although with us just a short time as of this writing, Lottie already has a legion of fans and wonderful comments on her kennel card: “sweetheart”, “love her”, “so gentle”, “great dog”, are just a few and she’s hoping you’ll add your accolades to her list after you adopt her. Likely housetrained, she was thrilled to be outside to go potty, and then showed me her lovely leash manners as we walked to the park. As we pass other dogs she ignores them, and in group play she’s tolerant and greets others politely. We stopped to take some photos and Lottie didn’t mind being tethered, smiling and making soft eye contact as she posed. Lottie has likely been a mom a couple of times, so will need good nutritious food to add some luster back into her coat, but her personality doesn’t need any added luster. She’s as sweet and gentle as it gets, so much so that she rocked her behavior assessment indicating that she’ll be a good fit in just about any home. If a gentle, sweet and calm little girl is what you’d like to add to your family, Lottie is hoping you’ll choose her today.
06/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lottie excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment -licked hands and tries to get close to the assessor. She was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. She follows the assessor with a loose, wiggly body during tag, approaches in a friendly manner once the game ceases and begins to play tug-o-war with the leash. She was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had neutral body language. Lottie was easy to handle when chewing on the toy and took away the rawhide, but had a loose, wiggly body. Lottie was brought to the care center as a stray; upon intake she was wagging her tail and allowed to be petted. Throughout the assessment, Lottie remained friendly toward the assessor and showed no concerns. The Behavior Department feels Lottie can go to an average home, but she appears to have a moderate to high energy level and will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is wagging with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is panting. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, and comes toward the Assessor in a friendly manner when the Assessor ceases moving. The dog begins to play tug-o-war with the leash once movement ceases. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body neutral. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Rawhide 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the rawhide, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness.
