07/14/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/14/15 09:03 Lorelei A1043916 is a female Boxer/Black Mouthed Cur Mix whom was found in a park near a train station in the Bronx late last night. The finder stated Lorelei came right up to them and allowed them to grab her leash and walk her home. They unfortunately cannot keep her due to having two Pit bulls….one male & one female. During her brief stay with the finder Lorelei got along well with the two dogs in the home and appeared to be house broken as she didn’t “go” inside the home during the night. Lorelei was given some linen to sleep on and was fed dry & wet Pedigree dog food. During intake, Lorelei allowed all handling. She allowed to be scanned (+), collared & taken pictures of. She was distracted by the activity of the morning rush outside our window so getting a shot of her looking at our camera took a few tries. Lorelei had a loose wiggly body with an open mouth and when approached she would wag her tail a mile a minute and come in for cuddles and caresses. She laid her head on my lap as I made her collar and placed it around her neck, she’s very affectionate and sweet.
07/20/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Our Lorelei is by all means charming but she would not lure us, humans into dangerous waters like sirens usually do…Lorelei loves us …Indeed , once she meets one of us, it seems that she bonds forever at the point to even forget about her fellow dogs she should be playing with. Lorelei can be shy at first then little by little becomes your pal, sitting by your side or slaloming between your legs and ending up on the bench, her head burried in your chest or lap for kisses and hugs. She is a pretty dame with a greying muzzle and clear chesnut eyes. She is trim and very well dressed in her fawn coat. She walks nicely on the leash, sits readily on command, treats or not and is housetrained. Lorelei does run after the ball, eventually catches it but does not continue the game. She does not mind me taking the ball out of her mouth. Lorelei is one of those dogs you know will be her master or family’s loyal and loving friend, always there to share the happy, tender or sad moments that make our lives. Lorelei is at the Manhattan Care Center hoping to make her way to your heart and your home. Ask to meet her soon.
07/16/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lorelei pulls slightly on the leash and was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. She had a very soft body throughout handling. She engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open. Lorelei did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. She put body between assessor and toy, showing no growling or stiffness, however, she did take the rawhide away with a stiffened body, but did not growl. Lorelei was brought to the care center as a stray; upon intake had a loose wiggly body with an open mouth and when approached she would wag her tail; she was very affectionate and sweet. Her finders kept her overnight and reported she was friendly when initially approaching them on the street and allowed them to easily grab her leash and walk her home. The finders had two large dogs of their own that they reported she got along with overnight. Throughout handling during the assessment, Lorelei remained loose and very friendly towards the assessor. She showed mild potential to be possessive over her rawhide and would likely benefit from learning the “drop-it” command. The Behavior Department feels Lorelei can go to an average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed or back. Food 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against her cheek. Toy 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the toy, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Rawhide 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is stiff. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Lorelei is a bit unsure but will sniff the other dog briefly. She is more interested in interacting with the handlers.
07/15/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
