A volunteer writes: When I approached Loki’s kennel to take him out the first thing I notice is how patient and calm he is. He sat and watched me take several other dogs out and didn’t whine or complain. He is leashed up easily and off we go. Loki has exceptional leash manners and doesn’t pull at all, after taking care of business all he wanted was to cuddle and be petted (He even taps you gently when you stop–its so cute).  Loki has such beautiful markings and such a calm demeanor earning him the position of my favorite dog at the shelter right now. If you have room in your heart and home for this handsome young dog please come to Staten Island AC&C and meet him. You won’t be sorry.

A Staff member writes:
Loki was surrendered because of the NYC Housing ban. His owner was very distraught and contacted quite a few people to try to help his dog without success. He is a great pup! Loki has spent many days in dog parks and running with his owner. He is good with children and has interacted with other dogs

Two things the owner listed that he likes best about the dog is that he’s friendly and good with children.

The dog’s activity level has been described as very high.
He has been described as playful, excitable, affectionate, mellow and friendly.

3/10/15 – SAFER

On 2/15/2015 Loki came to us as owner surrendered. According to the owner, Loki is friendly with children and other dogs, and has no bite history. The Assistant’s observations: playful, friendly and walks well on leash to the assessment area. During the assessment Loki appeared friendly, jumping up to lick the Assessor’s face. He allowed the Assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items and accepted handling well. When pushed away by the assess-a-hand, Loki lifted his head from the food bowl. He kept a firm grip on a rawhide. No other behavior issues; no aggression noted. Although Loki did very well on the behavior assessment, he was involved in a fight with another dog that resulted in minor injuries and was placed on a Department of Health hold. This incident must be considered in the overall behavior assessment. It is the recommendation of the Behavior Department Loki may be adopted by an experienced owner who is fully aware Loki may present dog reactive behavior in the future.
