A  volunteer writes:

Beauty is the first thought that comes to mind,  looking at young Lilli in her kennel. She is tentative, coming forward then going backward. She is cocking her head, her eyes are wide open and her mouth seems to ask:  ” Who are you ? I am scared…What’s this place ? Where are my family, my kids, my little Pekinese friend ? Should I trust you ?…….” Lilli hesitates a little to be leashed but eventually accepts the rope and off we go around the block. She is gorgeous, a little fashion model, manicured. She has been so well cared for. Her tail comes from under her belly. She is more comfortable and walks nicely, a lovely smile on her face. She seems pleased to see other dogs. She sits as I say and takes a treat very properly from my hand. Back at the care center, Lilli transforms again into a shy mouse. A playgroup with multiple other puppies and a gentle adult, perks up her mood. She is playing beautifully, all her guards are down. She is now the youngster described to us by her former owners: playful, gentle, silly…Lilli was relinquished into are care as her family counting  young and older children as well as a small dogs, had no time to raise and train a puppy. She was loved but barely played with(she did not even have …one toy) or taken out for a walk although she loved the dog park…I guess,then,  yes, it was the wise thing to bring Lilli to the care center and hope that a wonderful adopter will come along and be Lilli’s new teacher and loving master. Lilli is at the Manhattan Care Center, waiting and dreaming to be your new forever best friend.

Another volunteer writes:  Lilli is gorgeous – that little pouty underlip, her beautiful white coat and stunning eyes…..She’s looking weary….she’s been here before and while her volunteer and staff fans welcome her “there’s no place like home”.   Adopted and returned because the adopter didn’t want to train her Lilli lost a couple of pounds in the two weeks she was in her new home, so must have been stressed.   She shakes paw, sits when asked, has good leash manners, is sweet, friendly, but no one it seems has taken the time to give a puppy what she needs.  Lilli needs toys, structure, love, positive reinforcement training, patience, time to decompress and learn what’s expected of her in a new home, and worth repeating:   love, patience and structure.   Smart and beautiful, Lilli is simply looking for what we all want, a place to feel safe, loved and valued, where we can relax, be silly, be loving, be ourselves.  If you can make the commitment to this amazing puppy, ask to meet our Lilli today.
