05/14/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lil Debbie came into the care center as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake she was reported to be very tense and nervous. She would approach the counselor to briefly sniff, but would retreat when the counselor attempted to pet her and lowered her head and body to the ground when anything was placed above her head. During SAFER Lil Debbie exhibited the same behaviors seen at intake and repeatedly attempted to get away from the assessor. She did allow the assessor to conduct each handling item without issue, but her body was tense. During the tag interaction, Lil Debbie became over aroused and had stiff body language, but was easy to calm down. She was easy to handle when engaged with the food item, but did show some concerns during the toy and rawhide items. When the assessor attempted to remove the toy Lil Debbie became stiff and growled. She also became stiff and held a firm grip when an attempt was made to remove the rawhide. Due to the behavior concerns seen on the assessment, the department feels Lil Debbie would be best suited for a home without children, and an experienced adopter is recommended. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 3. Dog responds with her tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and barks. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Squeeze 1 & 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Rawhide: 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is stiff. Dog-dog:When off leash with other dogs, Lil Debbie greets politely at the gate and is respectful and tolerant. She explores the yard with another dog.
