Lemmy is a brown male Yorkshire terrier/Shih Tzu mix who was brought into ACC as a stray today. Lemmy is not neutered and appears healthy and will undergo a physical health exam. Lemmy was friendly allowing himself to be handled and picked up by staff members. He also allowed himself to be petted and willngly walked with various people. He allowed himself to be collared and photographed with minimal effort.
SAFER: NEW HOPE ONLY
Lemmy came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake Lemmy was friendly towards the counselors and he allowed all handling. During SAFER Lemmy came into the assessment room calm, he was a bit social towards the assessor, not all handling items were able to be conducted as Lemmy tried to bite the assessor on the first paw squeeze. He bit the assess-a-hand on food item and freezes on toy and rawhide items during this portion of the assessment. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time.
Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is stiff and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body stiff, mouth closed.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful.
Squeeze 1: 5. Dog tries to bite.
Food: 5. Dog tries to bite.
Toy 1: 4. Dog freezes.
Rawhide: 4. Dog freezes.
Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Lemmy is tolerant of interaction but spends most of his time exploring his surroundings.
PLAYGROUP: When off leash with other dogs, Lemmy is tolerant of interaction but spends most of his time exploring his surroundings.
