06/20/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Part of the “fabulous four’ as I’ve dubbed them, Lema was found along with three other dogs. Like the others, Lema is far too skinny and is being fed an extra meal each day to put some meat on her pretty bones. She’s a tiny little girl, a ‘pocket pittie’, who’s a bit shy at first meeting but gives kisses and never stops wagging her tail. Likely housetrained she goes potty as soon as we’re out the door, and wags her tail as we walk. Alert to her surroundings she wasn’t thrilled being tethered for photos and even the treats that she takes gently weren’t a sufficient enough bribe to get her to focus. Lema settles on a park bench with me, puts her head in my lap for petting, closing her eyes and sighing with the contentment of it all. She stole my heart at that moment. She pulls towards other dogs (and birds) we pass in the park, and wags her tail at the other kenneled dogs once inside, so may simply need to learn better ‘how do you do’ manners when outside. This little gray girl with the sweet and soft amber eyes stole my heart and is waiting to steal yours. She’s a puppy on the cusp of becoming an awesome adult. Will you help her get there?
06/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lema came into our center with three other dogs all found in an abandoned building. She was easy to handle and friendly upon intake. Lema allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands during Look item, body soft. She stood still and accepted the touch for Sensitivity item, tail wagging. Lema followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft, settling easily at the end. She did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts, low wag. Lema lifted her head out of the Food dish with a bit of pressure from the assess-a-hand. She had minimal interest in Toy. She engaged with Rawhide enthusiastically, loose and wiggly with a frim grip. She is social and playful with other dogs in playgroup. The Behavior Team feels Lema would do well in an Average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is wagging with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Food 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body neutral. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Rawhide 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide. Dog-to-Dog: When off leash with other dogs Lema is social and playful. She engages in brief bouts of bouncy play but is more interested in exploring her surroundings.
06/21/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
