A staff member writes: Leia was brought to us because the owner is having a baby. She is the sweetest and happiest girl around and good with other dogs!
PROFILE – 09/22/15 14:12
Basic Information: Leia is a 5yr old spayed female Husky/Shepherd mix that has had 2 knee surgeries and also has hip issues according to the owner.
Social Life & Personality: Leia comes from a home with children and interacts with them in a playful gentle manner. She has also been around other dogs and get along with them fine. The owner isn’t sure how she would respond in the presence of a cat due to never having one around for Leia to interact with. Leia is an indoor only dog that is house broken according to the owner. Leia is described to be friendly, playful and affectionate with a low activity level.
Behavior Issues: Leia has never bitten a person or another animal according to the owner. Leia doesn’t have any guarding issues when it comes to food, treats, and toys. These items can be given and taken away with no issues. Leia has received baths and has had her nails trimmed. It can be a struggle when performing these grooming agents. However she loves to have her coat brushed and this can be done with no issues.
For a New Family to Know: Leia knows a few basic commands like sit, lay down, and give paw. The owners used to walk her a lot but due to her hip and knees issues they let her into the yard for daily exercise. They give her dog toys but she shows minimal to no interest in them unless you are physically playing with her with them. When in the home Leia is the type to be in a favorite spot in the home. Leia has been crated and takes well to being put in one. When left alone in the home Leia is well behaved and this applies to her being left in the yard as well. Leia was brought up eating dry food and the brand the owner gave was Purina Dog Chow (Healthy Choice).
BEHAVIOR: 9/23/15: When off leash with other dogs, Leia was very polite and tolerant when introduced to a social male. She often wandered the yard with the company of another dog. 9/24 update: Leia continues to be tolerant of other dogs, when greeting a male she is loose and wiggly.
