05/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lefty came into the care center a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Lefty did not solicit attention and appeared to be anxious when interacting with the assessor; consistently panting and whining while pacing the room. He did allow some handling without issue, but on the second paw handling item Lefty became stiff and uncomfortable, giving a low growl and lip curl, but did not escalate further. During the resources portion of the assessment lefty was easy to handle when engaged with the food item, allowing the assessor to easily push him out of the food bowl, and he was not interested in the toys or rawhides items. Due to the behaviors displayed on SAFER the department recommends an experienced adopter with no children. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is down, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip licks. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needed coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Squeeze 1: 4. Dog growls and lip curls Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest.
05/28/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Lefty is very anxious with nervous movements and anxious vocalizations. He appears dog defensive and will back off when approached by another dog. 5/30 update: Lefty continues to exhibit these behaviors and was muzzled for this interaction as a result. He is avoidant of the helper dog and when approached he will growl and snap at her then begins to follow her and do the same thing. When offered a handler correction he will become stiff and begin to growl.
