A volunteer writes:
Hey there, new friend! My name is Lee and I love love LOVE to snuggle – how about you give me a belly rub? I know we only just met but trust me, I’m a lover not a fighter and when it comes to making friends I’m told I might actually be a prodigy…whatever that means. All I know is that whether you walk on two legs or four I’m ready to cuddle and kiss from the get-go and no one does chilled-out-belly-up-begging-for-attention like yours truly! My fur is velvety soft so once you start petting me you might find it hard to stop but we don’t have to spend all our time on the mushy stuff (not that I’m complaining) because I enjoy regular rough-n-tumble guy things too. I like to play chase, run after a ball, go for brisk walks (especially because I hold my ‘business’ in until we get outside – it’s not easy you know!) and I love to snarfle treats as well. If you make me wait too long for my reward I WILL loudly announce that I am not amused and if you then insist on trying to get a photo I may even hurry things along with a jump or two because I really don’t like to be kept waiting! I know how to ‘sit’ on command but if you slip up and say ‘sit down’ I will show off my ‘lie down’ instead, sloooowly sinking into what is known as a froggy doggy pose – you know, where I lay on my belly and splay my back legs, that one that always makes you smile? Speaking of smiles, I’m told that mine is a real winner and with my slight bug-eyes and tipped over ears I have a unique yet gorgeous look that’s all my own. I’ve already aced my behavior evaluation and the assessor used words like ‘calm and somewhat playful’, ‘friendly, loose and wiggly’ and when it came to other dogs he said I was a good boy and all about the ‘exuberant play’. But enough about me, let’s talk about you and what you’re looking for in a dog. Friendly and sociable? That’s me. Well-trained and responsive? Me again. Sweet, loving and eager to please? Me, me and definitely me. Hmmm, I’m starting to see a pattern here…it seems clear that what you really need in your life is MORE ME!  Come in to the Manhattan Care Center, ask for Lee (that’s me!) and we can share some treats and belly rubs and laughter and then…maybe I could go home with you and we could share that too? Like, forever?
