04/18/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/18/15 15:15 BASIC INFO Lazarus’s family got him 11 years ago from a pet store. They surrendered him because he hurt his leg and won’t allow them to handle him anymore. MEDICAL When Lazarus was young, he fell and injured his right rear limb. He didn’t receive vet care and his owners think he’s had minor pain/arthritis in this leg for all of his life. A month ago, he fell of the couch. Since then, he’s been limping. He’s not active or playful anymore. He doesn’t squat when he defecates-he stands. PEOPLE Lazarus is shy with new people. He nipped his owner while she was attempting to bathe him because he’s in pain. It didn’t break skin/draw blood. ANIMALS Lazarus barks and lunges towards dogs outside. PERSONALITY Lazarus’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, shy, and medium activity. He follows his family around. He likes balls, bones, and stuffed toys. He plays fetch, chase, and tug and throws his toys around by himself. HABITS Lazarus lived inside and slept on a dog bed next to his owner’s bed. He ate Vienna sausage, chicken, and rice. He went for slow walks and pottied on cement. TRAINING Lazarus is housetrained and doesn’t have accidents. He’s well-behaved when he’s home alone. He does well traveling in a soft carrier. He knows sit. BEHAVIOR Lazarus doesn’t mind if someone takes his food/treat/toy, moves him off furniture, or wakes him up. For most of his life, he didn’t mind being bathed or brushed and he enjoyed being picked up and held. Since he hurt his leg 1 month ago, he snaps/tries to bite when his owner tries to bathe, brush, or pick him up. Outside, he attacks and grabs stranger’s pants. He snaps/tries to bite strangers that approach his owner. When strangers come over, he approaches and sniffs them but retreats if they try to pet him. He hides during storms. INTAKE Lazarus was stiff and snapped/tried to bite when we handled him-scan (positive), collar, leash. He walked with us and had a soft body when we weren’t handling him. Once muzzled, he was easy to handle (hold for vaccines, pet, pick up, and put in a kennel). He allowed us to remove his muzzle.
