12/08/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Layla looks like a plain little grey mouse but she is really a sweet, pleasant and fun little gal to spend time with. Her peers are saying just the same thing as she is awesome in playgroups. Her tail wags non stop. She is happy to see people coming to her door or commenting in the street on how nice she walks, bouncing lightly like a pony. Free in a pen, after a brief inspection, she chooses to stay around me. Her tail wags non stop. She comes on my lap for kisses, checks on some little and big dogs next door and welcomes a staff who comes to stay hello. Layla is very comfortable here at the care center and it showed in her almost perfect behavioral evaluation. Layla loves treats and she will walk on her hinds and dance to get more. She is quite polite and does not snatch food from my hand. Layla is quite a cute young lady, a bit thin but dressed well. I love her ears that she keeps stretched up and to the sides. Layla is a very friendly, sociable and affectionate little girl we have at the Manhattan Care Center. She is quite well mannered, although lively and would most likely fit in many settings. Come and meet Layla soon and make her your forever best friend.
12/03/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Layla pulls a bit on the leash. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Layla engages in play, body is loose and wiggly, mouth open. She took the toy away but had soft body language. Layla did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy.
12/03/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Layla engages briefly in play with both males and females. She becomes uncomfortable with overly playful dogs, stiffening and standing tall over that dog. The behavior department recommends that Layla have a pre-adoption interaction before going home to another dog. When off leash with other dogs Layla greets but is initially a bit stiff. When the helper dog solicits play she becomes loose and briefly engages with her. 12/9 update: Layla greets well and briefly solicits, but is respectful when the other dog is not interested in play.
