08/31/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
Layla A1049899 is a 2yr old female tan & white American Staffordshire terrier who was left behind by a friend of the person who surrendered her to us 3wks ago. Layla’s last vet visit is unknown and she currently has an ear infection which was being treated. Around strangers Layla is friendly/outgoing. She lived with a 12yr old and a 17yr old these past 3wks and got along well with them. She’s relaxed/playful and plays gently, exuberantly and can get a little too rambunctious due to her size/weight during play at times. She’s the same way with adults. The temp owner stated when Layla sees another dog “her hair stands up and she stares at them”. They believe she seems to like dogs her size or larger better than the smaller ones. When she spots cats on the street she “tries to go after them”. As far as the temp owner knows she hasn’t bitten or scratched any person or animal. When Layla spots someone with sunglasses, hats or large clothing she’ll bark and growl at them. Layla isn’t bothered by the following: if someone touches/moves her food/food bowl or treats (toys are unknown), if you move her off of furniture or being given a bath. She enjoys being brushed and petted. If you’re holding/restraining her she becomes hyper and thinks it’s play time. Her behavior is unknown for having her nails trimmed. When someone approaches the home/family member she’ll bark and sometimes growl. Layla is described as friendly, very affectionate, very playful, pushy, excitable and fearful of sudden movements and paper/plastic bags with a medium activity level. The temp owner likes how affectionate she is and Layla enjoys tugging with the rope and any/all physical activity. She enjoys balls, squeaky, stuffed and rope toys. Layla enjoys games of fetch, chase and wrestling. Layla’s an indoor dog who’s walked 3x a day where she pulls on the leash when she sees a dog or cat. She sleeps on the sofa or crate and eats dry dog food 2x a day and is given rawhide once in a while as a treat. Layla is very housebroken and will perhaps have an accident if left indoors longer than 12hours. She’s well behaved when left alone and is only placed in the crate when the family is having dinner. Layla’s known commands are “sit”, “stay” and “lay down”. Layla was taken to a dog park a couple of times and let off the leash and she’ll stay close to keep watch on you. Layla at first was nervous but once she was given treats, spoken to gently & approached slowly she allowed handling.
09/05/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Our full figured little girl is a gem! Bouncy, playful, affectionate, she’s well groomed in her tan coat. Surrendered to our care as her owner left her with a friend and never came back for her, we’re told that she lived nicely and playfully with two teens, is “very housetrained”, knows ‘sit’, ‘stay’ and ‘lay down’, is well behaved when left home alone, loves to play with toys and play fetch, chase and to wrestle, and is nervous with sudden movements. In play group our little chunky mama greets others well and solicits play. Good girl Layla! There is no question that Layla has a fun, playful energy, happy to engage with me, and thinks she’s a lap dog! Her leash manners are fabulous as she walks by my side checking up with me as we go. She’s so easy I loved it! Layla has the perfect combination of playful energy and sweet affection. She’s ready to demonstrate her charms to a new person or family, and given her love of dogs a doggie sibling might be nice too. She’s a love…..waiting to love you…..
09/02/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Layla was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, licked hands and face. She was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. She engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open. Layla had not interest in food or rawhide and was easy to handle when chewing on her toy. Layla lived with her finder for 3 weeks, she is reported to be friendly and outgoing towards strangers and lived with a 12 & 17 year old who she got along well with. She’s reported to be relaxed/playful and plays gently and exuberantly at times, but can get a little too rambunctious due to her size/weight during play at times. Her finder’s noted that Layla has exhibited on leash reactivity towards people wearing sunglasses, hats or large clothing and will bark and growl at them. It is reported that she is unbothered when her food or treats are touched or moved. Layla is described as friendly, very affectionate, very playful, pushy, excitable, and fearful of sudden movements. It was also stated that she has a medium activity level. Layla was very excited during the assessment and would jump up on the assessor repeatedly but her body remained soft throughout the interaction. The Behavior Department recommends Layla go to an experienced adopter that is comfortable managing and positively modifying any on leash reactivity that may present itself once outside the shelter environment. We also recommend the adopter be prepared to provide her with adequate mental and physical stimulation as appropriate outlets for her energy. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is wagging. Dog is panting. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food. No interest. Toy 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Layla greets the other dog politely and attempts to solicit play.
09/02/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
