07/17/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Beauty and sheer elegance are the first words that come to mind looking at Lanterna, a young Collie we have at the Manhattan Care Center. She is overly thin under her lush red, golden and brown coat and she was found with bleeding paws. She is shy but recognizes immediately her friends(among them the ACC driver who brought her to the care center), tail wagging and the beginning of a smile on her face. She nudges softly her face in a caretaker’s chest or lap for caresses. Lanterna is quiet and calm, walking slowly and peacefully on the leash. She eliminates outside her den that is always spotless. She goes with the flow, comes when called, sits when asked and takes food gently from my hand. She seems tired and to have gone through hard times but we do not know her secret and probably will never know…She is fine meeting other dogs in the street or upfront in the yard. Lanterna is a young beauty, classy, friendly and gentle. I know that once loved and cared for, she will regain her “joie de vivre” and be the marvelous forever companion she was always meant to be. Lanterna is at the Manhattan Care Center.
