03/27/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Langston and I are searching each other eyes through the bars of his kennel door…He seems quite amused by the game but does not bark. He knows that I will take him out and go for a walk. Langston is a smart and good looking little boy, well dressed in a perfectly groomed cow print coat, the perfect weight and so nicely designed. He was found as a stray, though and I really wonder what went though Langston’s former owner’s mind to abandon such a gem. Langston is a great walker, happy go lucky to stroll though the streets and to the park. He has quite a serious face, though, but do not let that fool you. Langston is a very playful pup, only ten months of age. He loves everybody, people and dogs alike, playbows every opportunity he has to meet another pooch and does not chase squirrels or birds. He is very lively, likes to jump, runs after a ball and sits wonderfully well on command, treats or not. Langston is very sweet too, comes on the lap and enjoys lots of petting and kissing. Langston is all together a handsome and wonderful young dog, sociable and friendly, great in playgroups with other dogs and so ready to be your forever best friend. Come and meet him at the Manhattan Care Center. He will be waiting for you. Another volunteer writes: You know how some dogs have an irresistible zest for life, a “joie de vivre” that is infectious and brings a smile to even the most serious observer? That’s our Langston! Everyone is a friend for this long legged youngster–dogs and people alike. He is happiness wrapped up in a handsome furry suit! Walking him through the park is pure joy–this is a dog that truly lives for the moment and finds delight in every small thing. Grass? Yay! A stick? Woo hoo! Kids playing ball? Well hiiiiiii! At only 10 months of age this sweet and silly boy is ready to bring sunshine into his new family’s life. Come meet him today and keep the good times rolling!
03/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Langston came to our center as a stray. He pulled slightly on the leash during his relief walk. Lanston was hard to settle during Look, but did allow the assessor to cup hands under his face while his eyes were averted. During tactile portions of the assessment, Langston would jump up, wag his tail fast (helicopter), and sniff assessor’s hand. He calmed immediately at the end of the game of Tag. Langston always had a soft, loose, wiggly body during the assessment. He followed the dish and allowed his cheek to be pushed out with a bit of pressure, all while wagging his tail. Langston had no interest in either toy, but did settle with the rawhide and not relinquish it, tail wagging. The behavior team feels Langston would do well in an Average home, and might benefit from puppy obedience classes to properly channel his exuberant puppy energy. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw, sniffs hand. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw, jumps up, licks hand. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide.
