12/02/15 15:31 Basic Information: Lana is a 11yr old Labrador Retriever that currently suffers from arthritis and according to the owner has no other health issues that they are aware of. Social Life & Personality: Lana has been around children and she interacts with them in a gentle playful manner. Lana also has been around other dogs and gets along with large breed dogs. However she is afraid of the smaller breed dogs and will not interact with them, she will do her best to keep her distance. Lana has lived with a cat and she got along with it just fine according to the owner. Lana is an indoor only dog that was house trained up until more recent times. She has accidents in the home on a daily basis. Lana is described to be anxious and fearful with medium activity level. Behavior Issues: Lana has bitten people in her past but nothing within the last 10 days. She has never bitten another animal according to the owner. When it comes to food and treats Lana can recieve them with no issues but when you try to take it back from her she first growls as a warning. If you proceed to take the food/treat from her she will then snap/bite according to the owner. These issues don’t apply to toys. Lana doesn’t take well to grooming agents like recieving a bath or having her nails trimmed. She will do her best to flee or just plop down to the floor and not move when trying to bath her. Lana doesn’t like having her paws touched, she will try to flee and there were times she has snapped when having this grooming agent done. Lana doesn’t take well to strangers and will bark when in the presence of one. For a New Family to Know: Lana knows a few basic commands like sit, give paw, come, and lay down. Lana went for slow walks on a leash and sometimes let out into the yard for daily exercise. Lana enjoys all sorts of dog toys and will play with just about anything. When in the home Lana is the type to follow you around seeking attention. When left alone in the home Lana will soil the home. When left alone in the yard Lana likes to bark a lot adn is an escape artist. According to the owner she needs to be supervised in the yard because the likes to break out and wander. Lana is afraid of sounds lie thunder and fireworks. She appears to be afraid and will do her best to hide at these times. Lana was brought up eating dry food and the brands the owner gave were, Pedigree and Beniful.

Lana came into our center as an owner surrender on 12/2/2015 citing landlord issues. It is reported the family moved and ever since Lana has been soiling inside the home. It is reported she bit a child in the yard 4 months ago and has recently been uncomfortable around strangers. Typically owner reports Lana is gentle around children. She has been around other dogs and gets along with large breed dogs but is afraid of smaller dogs and tries to avoid them. Owner reports Lana has lived with a cat and they got along. Owner reports Lana will growl if you attempts to take away her food, if you continue she will snap/bite. According to the owner she needs to be supervised in the yard because the likes to break out and wander. Owner stated that Lana doesn’t like to have her paws touched and that she suffers from arthritis. Lana walked gingerly into the SAFER assessment area, no pulling. She allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, tail down, body cautious. Lana was initially very cautious during Sensitivity item, but accepted the touch, mouth closed. She followed at the end of the leash, body soft. Lana closed her mouth and became stiff on paw Squeeze. She became stiff during both Flank Squeezes. Lana did not show any interest in Toy. She slowly approached the helper dog, investigated, and then turned away. The Behavior Team feels Lana would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have Children. She may benefit initially from a calm, quiet, structured environment so she can relax and adapt to her new home. She may benefit from placing down wee wee pads in the home along with frequent walks to try to limit any household accidents. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is cautious, her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body neutralf, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff. Flank squeeze 1 / 2: 3. Dog closes mouth, begins to purse lips and becomes stiff Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 1. Dog approaches the helper dog, soft or loose body, not playful, tail down, investigates then turns away.
