He allowed me to approach him with the scanner and I scanned(-). He gave me his paw in both english and spanish and allowed me to pet the top of his head. When I approached with the leash, he tried to hide and snarled. He then growled and barked at me. I gave the leash to the owner and he put the leash on him and collared as well. He then helped with the examination and transferred him into a kennel.

12/04/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lalo pulls hard on leash. He was stiff and did not show social behavior during the he was uncomfortable when the assessor and the assistant tries to collar him. He wrinkles his muzzle to expose his front teeth and air snap at the assessor. The behavior team decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Lalo took the toy away but had soft body language. Lalo was surrender to us. His previous owner described Lalo as playful, affectionate, great with his children and very excitable. He says that he is a bug baby that loves to play. He also mentioned that Lalo is friendly and outgoing with strangers. He lived in a home with children (4,12 and 15 year old). He played exuberantly with them. He loves to play with the smallest child but forgets that he is a large dog. The owner says that he likes to cuddle up with them. He has rarely been around other dogs but loves to play with cats”. Lalo was a bit difficult to place him back on his kennel. Lalo became overaroused and overstimulated when a volunteer was walking him at the park a staff member had to assist the volunteer to bring Lalo back in the shelter. The dog became very mouthy and was jumping up on the chest of the volunteer. Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that he is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER at this time. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy.
