BASIC INFORMATION Lady is a 1 year old black Lab/Chow mix. Owner got lady as a gift from his brother. She has been part of the family, since she was 6 month old. Lady was surrendered due to family conflict. The owner’s mother does not want Lady in the home due to her high energy level and chewing of the house furniture. SOCIALIZATION Lady is very friendly around stranger. She always wags her tail and licks people. Lady is friendly and playful with dogs. She barks in excitement and bouncy around other dogs. Lady has been around children 4 year of age. She is gentle around children but may need to be monitored due to her high energy level. On walks she is not concern with the stray cats around the neighborhood. BEHAVIOR Owner stated that lady a high activity level. She is destructive with house hold items. Owner stated that she may have some separation anxiety. She does not mind her nails trimmed, bath, moved of furniture, brushed, toy removed or food touched. Lady is not house-trained and usually eliminates in the bathroom tub. After every meal, owner takes lady into the tub to use the bathroom. Occasionally on walks she uses the bathroom outside. Owner attempted to wee pad train her, but she would chew and ripped up the wee packs. On long walks she playfully tries to chew on the leash and picks garbage of the ground. When she’s in a crate or in an enclosed area she cries and whimpers. FOR NEW FAMILY KNOW Owner describes lady as curious, energetic and playful. She enjoys sleeping next to people. She follows owner around the house. She enjoys any kind of chewable toy especially squeaky toys. Lady loves attention and lots of affection from people. She is food motivated and loves treats. Lady has never displayed any signs of aggression. She is tolerant of any handling. She loves wet and dry food, but prefers dry food moist (with a bit of warm water). She enjoys unlimited Purina Chow. Lady is an active dog and needs a lot of attention and training. But she loves people and can go to any family. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE During intake lady displayed a soft and relax body. Her mouth was open and sniffed counselor hand. She allow to be scanned (positive should trace back to owner) collard, photograph. She was a bit tense going into the kennel, but was motived with food and treats.

Lady was reported to be friendly around strangers, and playful with other dogs. The owner mentioned that lady can be destructive of house hold items, and may have some separation anxiety. The owner also mentioned Lady is not house-trained and usually eliminates in the bathroom tub. When lady is taken on long walks the owner states she playfully tries to chew on the leash and will pick garbage of the ground. At intake Lady was noted to be relaxed and sociable towards the Counselor, allowing all handling. During SAFER Lady was not attention seeking, but she was receptive to attention when given. She allowed the assessor to conduct some handling items without issue, but became stiff and uncomfortable during the paw handling. During the resources portion of the assessment, Lady was easy to handle when engaged with the food, and rawhides items, and only showed minimal interest in the toys. Due to the behaviors seen on SAFER as well as the information provided by the previous owner, the department feels Lady would be best suited for an experienced adopter with no children. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 3. Dog becomes easily over aroused, and tugs hard on the leash while growling. Squeeze 1 & 2: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog sniffs, then turns away. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the rawhide, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Lady engages in rough and rowdy play with playful males and can be forward during play.

When off leash with other dogs, Lady is bouncy and playful and will solicit for play with her paws. She is respectful of a dog not interested in play and responds appropriately when offered a correction when she ramps up play. 5/24 Update Lady is generally polite when greeting other dogs at the gate and wants to interact with them in the yard. She can be a bit forward in her attempts to interact. 5/25 Update Lady engages in rough and rowdy play with playful males and can be forward during play. 5/26 Update Lady solicits play and engages in rough and rowdy play. 5/27 Update Lady offers appropriate corrections to a pushy playful male and engages in rough and rowdy play. She is polite when greeting a new dog. 5/28 Update Lady is generally polite, social and tolerant when greeting dogs. She is tolerant of mounting and accepts and offers appropriate corrections. When she is with another playful dog, she engages in rough and rowdy play. 5/29 update: Lady greets politely and is respectful of dogs not interested in play and will engage in running, vocal play with dogs who are solicitous. 5/30 update: Lady greets politely and will engage in bouncy play. She will correct appropriately.
