05/07/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: If Lady could be described in one word it would be “affectionate.” But she needs qualifying words, too, because she is ridiculously, incredibly affectionate! She is constantly gently propping her paws up for hugs, and it seems she could stay there forever; observing her in the arms of another volunteer, it is undeniable that her face is plastered with bliss. She loves to be petted and will softly lick my hands. When I turn her loose in the yard, her first destination is my lap! Of course, she is also very beautiful. Her fur is soft like a puppy’s and her coat is a stunning light tiger striped. She does adorable head tilts when I show her a squeaky toy and seems very interested and friendly towards other dogs. Sometimes she seems a little timid outside on the street and reluctant to walk in certain directions, but she is not shy about looking to her person for comfort and guidance. She seems to have some housetraining and knows “sit.” Lady really has such an innocence about her — she is pure goodness. This sweet, cuddly girl would be so happy to meet you at Brooklyn ACC.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lady came to our center as an owner on 4/29/2015. The member of the public that surrendered her said she spent some time with her young children, and they were able to walk her down the street nicely. Lady walked calmly on leash for her relief walk as well. She accepted all tactile portions of the SAFER assessment with no aggression. During Tag item, Lady was not interested in engaging in play, focused on other stimuli and unresponsive to the assessor, but not fearful or aggressive. She allowed the food dish to be moved away, and lifted her cheek with a moderate amount of pressure from assess-a-hand. Lady had minimal interest in toy, carrying it away momentarily and then losing interest. She carried rawhide away and held it with firm grip, with a loose wiggly body and wagging tail. During Social time, Lady does well with other dogs, but does not engage in play. The Behavior Team feels Lady would do well in an Average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted.
