09/30/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: She may be a little slow on her feet, but Lacey will be quick to steal your heart! She is the sweetest chubby old lady! Frosted faces are the prettiest, and hers is one to beat. She’s often snoozin’ in her cage, but is more than happy to go for a walk. She loves to sniff and explore, and especially loves snacks! She knows “sit,” but sometimes will attempt to stand on her hind legs for a treat (her body can’t keep up with her spirit!). Just a morsel is enough to get her unwavering attention, but she’ll take it very softly. When we’ve encountered other dogs, including those that are rowdier than her and those only a fraction of her size, she’s been calm and sometimes softly wags her tail. She’s very friendly to everyone she meets and loves to be pet, even resting her head on my lap when we hang out in the yard. Lacey is the most wonderful, waggy company; she seems like a lady that won’t ask for much, but I hope she can find a retirement home where she’ll be spoiled! She would love to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!
09/23/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lacey came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Lacey came into the assessment room calm with her tail wagging, she was friendly and attention seeking towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Lacey was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Lacey was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Lacey was uncomfortable and had tense body language when attempting to do the first paw squeeze, she did move her paw away along with her body, so flank was applied the second time and she didn’t respond at all showing no signs of aggression. The behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experience adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body tense, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 4. Dog reaches toward the Assessor’s hand on the first attempt while moving her paw away when the Assessor attempts to lift it. The dog will not allow the Assessor to assess a second time. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Food: Inconclusive, dog is not eating. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the rawhide, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs Lacey greets politely and is interested but does not engage in play.
09/22/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Lacey is social and polite when interacting with other dogs. She will engage in gentle play when solicited. Based on her behavior in playgroup, the Behavior Department recommends that Lacey can be placed in a home with both male and female dogs. She seems to do well with both playful and non-playful dogs so any play style can be considered. ***Lacey is a social group greeter dog.*** When off leash with other dogs Lacey greets politely and is interested but does not engage in play. 9/23 update: Lacey greets well and is interested when solicited but does not engage in play. She will offer correction when solicited by a pushy female. 9/24 update: Lacey is social and greets other dogs politely. She may attempt to solicit play and is tolerant of mounting. 9/25 update: Lacey greets well and will briefly solicit males and females. She is tolerant of a sexually motivated male. 9/26 update: Lacey is social and will briefly solicit play to both males and females. 9/27 update: Lacey continues to exhibit these behaviors when off leash with other dogs. 9/30 update: Lacey is social and greets other dogs politely. She will attempt to play when solicited and is tolerant of mounting. 10/1 update: Lacey is social and will engage briefly in play when solicited. 10/2 update: Lacey continues to be social and engages in play briefly when solicited. 10/3 update: Lacey is social and engages in gentle play when solicited.
