11/04/15 14:39 Basic Information Klara is a 4 year old spayed grey pit-bull that came in as an owner surrender. After adopting her from ACC and having her for 11 months, owner decided that she can no longer keep her after biting her earlier today. Owner stated that Klara is up to date on all her vaccines and her last vet visit was a few months ago. However, she will undergo a complete medical examination. Social Life & Personality Around children, Klara is relaxed, playful and respectful. Owner had children aged 20 and 26 that she would often play rough with. However she also had nieces aged 6 and 9 that Klara played gentle with. Around dogs, Klara can either be respectful and walk past them or sniff them out and attempt to attack. Owner does not recommend Klara be in a home with other dogs. There was a cat in the home that Klara was respectful with but owner stated that she would bark at cats seen in the streets. Klara is housetrained and does not have house accidents. She is kept mostly indoors and has a medium activity level. Owner described her as playful, pushy, excitable, confident, affectionate, shy, fearful and friendly. Behavior Issues Klara bite owner today after becoming overly aroused while owner argued with her husband. Owner stated that after the bite, Klara went to hide and tucked her head as if what she knew what she did was wrong. Although Klara plays somewhat rough, owner stated she has never bitten or scratched like that before. Klara isn’t bothered with having her food bowl touched while eating, having objects or toys taken away, and receiving baths or with unfamiliar people. Owner stead that she does, however, growl when she attempts to take a bone from her. Upon intake, Klara was loose bodied and allowed herself to be handled and collard. She sat without being told before being given a treat and her tail was wagging. (continued in Admissions memo)
01/02/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: “Well hello Miss Klara, it’s a pleasure to meet you!” This petite beauty waited patiently in her kennel as I made my morning rounds. Her hopeful eyes lit up when she saw me stop at her door. I looped her up and off we went! Klara walked obediently at my side down the hall. Once outside, she demonstrated she is likely house trained, and will sit pretty for a treat. We had a very pleasant walk around the neighborhood, and even though we had just met, I felt as if we had known each other for years! I sat down on the cuddle step to see if she’d enjoy some petting. She immediately jumped up and settled in by my side. We watched the pigeons fly by and talked about cars, fresh air, and other dogs. She had such a soothing affect I really dreaded bringing her back inside. At three years old, she has just the right combination of youth and wisdom to make an excellent confidant. Come to the care center today and share your secrets with her. She won’t tell!
11/17/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper dog: A1057469 Klara previously lived with 2 adults, 2 children 20 and 26 years old and 2 younger children ages 6 and 9 years old. The owner stated Klara plays often rough with the older children but plays gentle with the younger children. The owner mentioned Klara is house trained, has a medium activity level and well behaved when home alone. The owner describes Klara as playful, pushy, excitable, confident, affectionate, shy, fearful and friendly. It was reported by the owner Klara would be respectful and sniff out the other dogs on her walks but attempt to attack after. The owner stated Klara would growl if someone takes away her bone. The owner reported Klara bit her on her leg and side deep enough to leave puncture wounds and drew blood, when she was arguing with her husband. At intake it was reported Klara friendly with loose body posture and allowed all handling. During SAFER Klara came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Klara was easily aroused mouths the leash and slowly de-escalates with tense body posture during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Klara freezes on toy item when attempting to remove the item away. Due to some concerns with Klara behavior towards other dogs and her previous bite history, the behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experience adopter with no children and no other dogs in the house hold. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body a bit tense, mouth closed. Tag: 3. Dog gets easily aroused, mouths the leash with tense body language and slowly de-escalates. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Toy: 4. Dog freezes. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral.
