04/03/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
King is showing possession or guarding behavior over his food bowl inside the kennel, but is not showing this same behavior outside. The food bowl test was conducted again at feeding time in the behavior room, and King was more engaged with the assessor than with the food bowl and was unconcerned when it was removed; however, after being placed into his kennel and fed, he began growling and snapping when approached. We cannot be sure of the motivation for this behavior but we caution that King may have some barrier reactivity or possession guarding behavior in certain circumstances, and we suggest an adopter experienced with guarding and comfortable safely managing and positively modifying this behavior should it appear in a home environment. 4/1 SAFER King previously lived with 2 adults and 3 children of various ages, and the owner stated he is very energetic and has been reported to be very rough with children. King displayed this same high energy when interacting with the Admissions counselor and it was noted that he was a bit mouthy during handling, and he could not be collared due to over arousal. He was also reported to be very insistent on the leash but was receptive to commands. During SAFER King was sociable but very difficult to position for the handling items, however when he did become relaxed he allowed the assessor to conduct each item without any major behavior concerns. He was distracted during the tag interaction, and was not interested in the food and rawhide items, and only showed minimal interest in the toys. Due Kings high energy and rough play, King would be best suited for an experienced adopter with no children. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog is active and focused on the Assessor and all other stimuli available. His body is soft, and panting, and he displays high movement between attempts. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needed coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Dog licks hand Food: No interest Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. No interest.
